stop作名词通常表达停止等意思。但在音乐方面，它还可以表示管风琴的音栓，演奏者通过音栓来控制乐器的声音，当将全部音栓(all the stops)拉出(pull out)时，管风琴就会发出最大的音量。因此，我们可以用pull out all the stops来表示用尽全力去实现某事。
除此之外，还有"fight tooth and nail",它同样形象地表达了"全力以赴实现某事"。
