“BANG!”the door caused a reverberation. “Never set foot in this house again!”shouted father. With tears weiling(涌出)up in my eyes,I rushed out of the house and ran along the street.
A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me.I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space:happy and harmonious(和谐).
But now I don't know whether it is because I have grown up or because Dad is getting old. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.
I wandered around the streets, without a destination in my mind.My heart was frozen in this hot summer night. As I walked on,there were fewer and fewer people in the streets, until I had only streets to keep me company. When I finally reached the high rise apartment block in which I lived,I saw that the light was still on.
I thought to myself,“Is Father waiting for me or is he still angry with me?”
In fact,it was nothing.Perhaps,Dad was throwing some of his old stamps.Perhaps he thought they were useless.I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps.
All the lights were off except father's.
Dad was always like this.Maybe he didn't know how to express himself. After shouting at me,he never showed any mercy or regret. After an argument he will creep(蹑手蹑脚)up in my sleep and then tuck me underneath the covers.
This was how he always was.He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.
The light was still on.With the key in hand,I was as nervous as I had ever been.At last,I decided to open the door.As soon as I opened the door tears ran down my cheeks.I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all.Love-it is second to none.

It may help you to know that there is no such thing as a perfect speech. At some point in every speech, every speaker says something that is not understood exactly as he has planned.Fortunately, the moments are usually not obvious to the listeners. Why? Because the listeners do not know what the speaker plans to say. They hear only what the speaker does say. If you lose your place for a moment, wrongly change the order of a couple of sentences, or forget to pause at a certain point, no_one_will_be_any_the_wiser. When such moments occur, don’t worry about them.Just continue as if nothing happened.
Even if you do make an obvious mistake during a speech, that doesn’t really matter. If you have ever listened to Martin Luther King’s famous speech — “ I have a dream”, you may notice that he stumbles(结巴)his words twice during the speech. Most likely, however, you don’t remember. Why? Because you were fixing your attention on his message rather than on his way of speech-making. People care a lot about making mistakes in a speech because they regard speech-making as a kind of performance rather than as an act of communication. They feel the listeners are like judges in an ice-skating competition. But, in
fact, the listeners are not looking for a perfect performer. They are looking for a well-thought-out speech that expresses the speaker’s ideas clearly and directly. Sometimes a mistake or two can actually increase a speaker’s attractiveness by making him more human.
As you work on your speech, don’t worry about being imperfect. Once you free your mind of this, you will find it much easier to give your speech freely.
()51.The underlined part in the first paragraph means that no one will ________ . A.be smarter than you B.notice your mistakes C.do better than you D.know what you are talking about 51.B。推理判断题。根据第一段的内容Because the listeners do not know what the speaker plans to say. They hear only what the speaker does say.和When such moments occur, don’t worry about them.推理而判断。
()52.You don’t remember obvious mistakes in a speech because ________. A.your attention is on the content B.you don’t fully understand the speech C.you know what the speaker plans to say D.you find the way of speech-making more important 52.A。细节理解题。从文章第二段的Because you were fixing your attention on his message rather than on his way of speech-making.可知。
()53.It can be inferred from the passage that ________. A.giving a speech is like giving a performance B.one or two mistakes in a speech may not be bad C.the listeners should pay more attention to how a speech is made D.the more mistakes a speaker makes, the more attractive he will be 53.B。推理判断题。根据第二段的Sometimes a mistake or two can actually increase a speaker’s attractiveness by making him more human可知。
()54.What would be the best title of the passage? A.How to Be a Perfect Speaker B.How to Make a Perfect Speech C.Don’t Expect a Perfect Speech D.Don’t Expect Mistakes in a Speech 54.C。主旨大意题。根据全文内容判断。
()55.Which of the following statements is TRUE? A.If you are careful enough, you can make a perfect speech. B.Speech-making is a kind of performance. C.Listeners are not judges and they pay more attention to the message. D.Martin Luther King is not a good speaker. 55.C。细节理解题。根据They hear only what the speaker does say.和But, in fact, the listeners are not looking for a perfect performer. They are looking for a well-thought-out speech that expresses the speaker’s ideas clearly and directly.判断。 Ⅵ.Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage.
Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
Without most people realizing it, there has been a revolution in office work over the last ten years.
Before that time, large computers were only used by large, rich companies that could afford the investment. With the advancement of technology, small computers have come onto the market, which are capable of doing the work that used to be done by much larger and expensive computers, so now most smaller companies can use them. The main development in small computers has been in the field of word processors (处理器) , or WPS as they are often called. 70% of British offices are now estimated to have a word processor and this percentage is growing fast.
There are many advantages in using a word processor for both secretary and manager. The secretary is freed from a lot of daily work, such as re-typing letters and storing papers. He or she can use this time to do other more interesting work for the boss. From a manager's point of view, secretarial time is being made better use of and money can be saved by doing daily jobs automatically outside office hours.
But is it all good? If a lot of daily secretarial work can be done automatically, surely this will mean that fewer secretaries will be needed. Another worry is the increasing medical problems related to work with visual display units. The case of a slow loss of sight among people using word processors seems to have risen greatly. It is also feared that if a woman works at a VDU for long hours, the unborn child in her body might be killed. Safety screens to put over a VDU have been invented but few companies in England bother to buy them.
Whatever the arguments for and against word processor, they are a key feature of this revolution in office practice. Ⅰ. Theme: The use of small computers in work offices has brought about

From the English department 【参考范文】 A Letter to high school students Dear schoolmates,
Our government is aiming to reduce the use of private cars.I think it is every citizen’s duty to work hard for this goal.
As high school students, what can we do?
First of all,we should take public transport as possibly as we can. Going to school or coming back in our parents’ car every day may bring more convenience, but taking a bus can save us a lot of time and keep us safe. Let’s take a great interest in reducing private cars use and take an active part in our social activities.
Secondly, let’s keep our school gates less crowded with many cars when schools begin or end. We should know that so many cars can cause traffic jams and traffic accidents. Most important of all,all of us must be given a better environment.
Finally, let’s work together and choose green travel!
As for myself,I will persuade my parents to drive less the private car and choose public transportation system and try my best to do all the above.
Dear fellow students, let’s start right now and spare no effort to do a little bit every day, every hour, and every minute!
